Forestry Another Green Career Depending on their field of specialization, foresters can work either in offices, laboratories or outdoors in the wild. They also work as industrial and agricultural consultants in various industries that utilize forest resources. Research in the protection and regeneration of forests is also an important task performed by foresters. Courses The starting point for a career in forestry is at the degree level. Many institutes offer 4-year B.Sc Forestry course. Further, the Masters level offers specialization in subjects like Forest Management, Commercial Forestry, Forest Economics, Wood Science and Technology, Wildlife Science etc. Forestry Management is taught at the Indian Institute of Forest management (IIFM), Bhopal. Those who wish to do Ph.D in Forestry can do so at the recognized centers. Eligibility For B.Sc Forestry, it is +2/ equivalent with physics, chemistry Admission Admission is on the basis of performance in the qualifying examination.

Job Prospects: Apart from jobs in the Ministry of Environment and Forests and in the Forestry departments of state governments., experts can find jobs in government sponsored projects in forestry and environment. They can also find employment in executive positions in timber and plywood companies and in organizations like the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). Scientists can find employment in research labs. The education sector is also a potential source of employment.
